SAN FRANCISCO, CA, — Dr. Michael Merzenich, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Post Science Corp., will receive the 2006 Gold Electrode Award for Neurotechnology Researcher of the Year at the 2006 Neurotech Leaders Forum. Neurotech Reports editors selected Dr. Merzenich for the award because of his pioneering work in the area of cortical plasticity. “Michael Merzenich’s research leadership in cortical plasticity has not only advanced considerably our understanding of the human brain, it has also paved the way for several new and innovative commercial approaches for treating a range of neurological disorders,” said James Cavuoto, editor and publisher of Neurotech Reports. “We salute Dr. Merzenich for his insight in moving neurotechnology research to the commercial marketplace.”
Dr. Merzenich is the Francis Sooy Professor of the Keck Center for Neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, has published hundreds of articles and is the recipient of numerous awards. He is a co-founder of Scientific Learning Corporation (Nasdaq: SCILE), which has assisted more than 400,000 children with its plasticity-based computer training programs for language learning and reading. Most recently, Dr. Merzenich co-founded Posit Science Corporation, which develops computer-based programs to improve cognitive abilities as we age and also to address neurological conditions.
